Oh the convenience of being able to make perfect porridge with zero effort!! Thank you grain master! Now the weather is cooler I am really appreciating your ability on the porridge front. There is nothing like enough porridge for every family member easily made (with simple dishes to wash) and it cooking while you shower, get dressed and pack lunches! Make your family some porridge tomorrow - you won't regret it!

Lentils Salad

by
5 out of 5

Another great recipe tried today. It was very easy to make. Just put the lentils and water to cook in the Philips Grain Master Rice Cooker and left to the playroom to have fun with my beautiful daughters. When it was ready, put on the side to cool it down. In the meantime chopped onions, green olives, fresh chives, parsley and oregano with a drizzle of olive oil, white wine vinegar, salt and pepper. Mixed all together. Fried some halloumi cheese and that was it, lunch was done! Quickly, easy and delicious, thanks to my amazing Grain Master Rice Cooker!

Great flavour perfect cooking

by
4.94 out of 5

I have now owned the Philips grain master for about two months. Very simple to use as it does the thinking for you by the weight of your food it adjusts the time. Following the recipes in the booklet and changing to your tastes is so easy. If food goes up between the lid and the lid plate it is easy to remove the inner lid for cleaning and it just pushes back in. Same with the steam hole plastic part. Risotto is so simple as you use the quick cook function to cook off your onion, mushrooms and garlic if wanted. You then change the setting to standard function and add rice and stock. It states to add cut up chicken or prawns and soft vegetables when it has five minutes left to cook. I have found that I add these ingredients (not prawns) from about half way through cooking with excellent results. Keep you eye of the moisture content and add more stock if needed. I love this appliance and use it often. I recommend you to make the porridge. It will be the best you have ever eaten.

Deliciciois quinoa salad

by
4.94 out of 5

We tried quinoa in the Grain Master for the first time and it cooked perfectly. We made the Asian quinoa taboulleh from the recipe book and it was super easy and really delicious. I'm pretty sure this will become a regular dish in our household! It's great to have something you can make in advance as well (I cooked the quinoa and prepared the other ingredients then just mixed it all together when we were ready to serve.) I'm pleased with the warming function on the Grain Master as well. My old rice cooker would rapidly dry out the rice on the warm setting, and it would burn and stick to the bottom. The Grain Master doesn't do this and everything I've left on warm so far has kept really well.

The recipes that came with the user manual were very varied! I liked how it gave me a broad overview of ideas of how to use the rice cooker! However, I felt the recipes could be organised a bit better with ingredients listed according to the sequence they fit in the recipe. I always find that much easier to follow.

Easy vegetable risotto (served with pan fried chicken)

by
4.94 out of 5

We made a really easy vegetable risotto for dinner that we were very pleased with. We just fried some onion and garlic in olive oil in the Grain Master on the quick cook function and then added the aborio rice. We chucked in some frozen veggies and stock (just guessed the amount of liquid!) and then cooked on the standard function. After it was finished we stirred through a little butter and left it on warm for a bit then served topped with Parmesan cheese and some pan fried chicken. It was so easy, and would have been a lovely meal without the chicken too. We're finding the Grain Master easy to use, easy to clean, and great for producing delicious, well-cooked meals for the family.

Reheating magic!

by
4.94 out of 5

I've never had a rice cooker with a reheat function before and I had precooked cous cous that I needed to reheat (which also had chicken and vegetables in it). Although the instructions don't mention cous cous I thought I'd just try the reheat function anyway. I followed the instructions which say to add a little water to the food to prevent it from becoming too dry and used the reheat function from the menu. 25 minutes later I had a perfectly cooked and very fresh dinner that didn't seem like it had been reheated, but cooked fresh! Much better than in a normal microwave.

6 months on and we couldn't imagine life without it!

by
4.88 out of 5

About 6 months ago we were sent the grainmaster to put through its paces and see if it lived up to the hype. I can honestly say that the Philips Grainmaster is now an integral part of our kitchen. We use it to create a quick rice side dish, or to make risotto as a main (which the kids love) and this winter I have been using the fabulous delay start to ensure everyone wakes on these cold winter mornings to piping hot, delicious porridge! My husband is a chef and even he says he doesn't know what he ever did without it. My 9 and 7 year olds have been able to contribute to dinnertime as it's easy enough for them to use! They're currently on clearance through TVSN so grab one while they're cheap!!

So in my ignorance I have only ever thought of using this for tea and lunch.... well, looking in the recipe book I discovered this awesome recipe for breakfast - hooray for Saturday morning cooked brekky! I love being able to try something different to the usual bacon and eggs. It is very easy to use and make however I have learned that to get such awesome results, you have to be organised and not leave it to the last minute to prep it otherwise you will be waiting 95 minutes till you eat!

Quickly cooked fluffy soft rice with none of the mess!

by
4.88 out of 5

Easy peasy... I am always busy running around after my young children so majority of the time I don't have very long to fuss around in the kitchen. My family and I love to eat pasta, rice and other grains and many times I have burnt the water out of the saucepan cooking these because I got side tracked with the kids which is not only messy but dangerous. I am loving how easy the grain master cooks the elements and also that I can safely leave it without any worry while I attend to my children and other household duties. Highly recommend!

Risotto - Quick and so easy, even my 9 year old could do it!

by
4.88 out of 5

We've had some trouble with the porridge side of things - too sloppy. We are yet to try the recipe from the book with less liquids, but I know once we figure it out, it will be perfect. Tonight, we decided to allow Miss 9 to try her hand at using the Grain Master. Since receiving the Grain Master, Risotto has been a favourite in the household. The kids say they would eat it every night of the week, and I have to say it stands up to even the best risotto I've eaten at a fancy restaurant. I cut up bacon and chicken for her and showed her the 'quick cook' button so that she could use the pan like she would a frypan. She used the good old tupperware chopper to do the onions and threw the lot in. Once they had cooked nicely, she put in two cups of aborio rice, then chicken stock to cover the rice, about 2cm over the top. She put it on the Brown Rice function and we went outside to play cricket! It didn't even take half an hour, and the house smelled so good. I forgot to take a photo of her with her masterpiece, and when I went to take a photo afterwards, it had all disappeared. The kids all had seconds, and my husband had thirds! There was even enough for my dad who popped in on his way home from work - my daughter was so proud to be able to dish it up for him. The Philips Grain Master Rice Cooker has fast become the most used kitchen appliance we own. Everything I have used (apart from the porridge - which was still delicious, just a bit runnier than we like it!) has worked beautifully and tasted amazing. I seriously can't recommend it highly enough.

This is the second time that I have used the Philips Grain Master Rice Cooker and I can say that I am so impressed. The Grain Master is the first rice cooker I have ever used and I can't believe how perfect the rice comes out. The rice even stayed perfect on the keep warm setting for over an hour! I will never go back to cooking my rice in a saucepan on the stove.

Yummy Risotto in next to no time

by
4.88 out of 5

We've been putting the Philips Grainmaster through its paces and decided to try out risotto. I am a huge risotto fan but don't make a lot of it at home because it's a bit fussy especially when you've got a million children-related interruptions! I was so surprised at how easy it was and how amazingly it turned out. Basically all I did was fry up some bacon, cubed some pumpkin and did a slight pre-cook in the microwave, before throwing them both, along with aborio rice, some leftover BBQ chicken and some stock in the grain master. 35 minutes later, we feasted! It was just like I would eat at a restaurant. Best of all, the kids loved it so I now have a super easy dinner to add to the collection when I'm not feeling overly inspired! So quick, easy and delicious!

It's THAT easy

by
4.88 out of 5

When my Grain Master finally arrived I was so excited to have a play. Un-boxing my new gizmo was extremely satisfying and I was impressed with the Grain Master's sleek design; the perfect addition to my bench top. I had a quick glance at the instructions which seemed easy enough to follow and I decided I would make a small batch of quinoa for my first test run. I washed my quinoa, popped it in the cooker, added water and pressed a button. Was that it? I waited whilst it hummed ever so gently and steam proceeded to seep from the top. In a short 45 minutes, the Grain Master beeped and my quinoa was cooked to perfection. No burnt bits, yes! I was so impressed with the ease of use and the quality of my Grain Master. I'm looking forward to putting it through it's paces over Christmas and testing some of the more advanced functions.

What a great product

I love the Philips Grain Master Rice Cooker it cooks the rice quick and easy. Its fluffy and smooth. It is a lot easier than doing the old way on the stove top and having to constantly stir it and plus you don't have all the starch. The rice cooker is easy to use and easy to clean so it makes my job a lot easier.

It is Sooo super easy to clean it almost cleans itself!

by
4.81 out of 5

After cooking any grain in this appliance, it doesn't matter how much mess there is although normally little to none, it is so easy to clean... Warm water and small amount of dishwashing liquid on your brush or sponge and it practically wipes clean... In fact you could probably use a piece of paper towel to clean the insert. Use, wash put away... Less dishes, less mess and more time to enjoy with your family. What more could you ask for?!

Great for big quantities!

by
4.81 out of 5

Can we just take a moment to appreciate that this cooker can cook up to 8 cups of rice!!! I am a self confessed lazy rice cooker, so previously would use the Tupperware rice cooker in the microwave, but something that always frustrated me was that if I wanted to make larger quantities I couldn't... the grain master saves me time because when I cook rice for one meal, I like to make left over rice to have fried rice on the following day or two. If you have a big family it would also be a great product for you to make bulk rice all at once!

Compact and functional

by
4.81 out of 5

As I was making a batch of plain jasmine rice last night I realised how compact the actual rice cooker was, particularly compared to my last cooker which was bulky and would never fit anywhere. This rice cooker fits nicely in most cupboards and shelves which is a definite plus. To make rice (or any grain) it is just so easy - particularly using the quick cook function (when I realised I had nothing to go with my sons dinner). And you always get soft fluffy perfectly cooked rice at the end! Love this cooker so much!

Easy, quick and delicious!

by
4.81 out of 5

I received my rice cooker in the week leading up to Christmas, so things were very hectic! The box it came in was really big, so I was worried about bench space. On opening the box, I noted that while it is a big appliance, the shape allows for easy storage. The first thing I saw was the great recipe booklet and all the recipes looked delicious - and most of them could be achieved by simply putting all the ingredients into the grain master and turning on - like a sort of grain specialty slow cooker! The buttons are very intuitive, but I did read the instructions to make sure I didn't blow it up! Our first trial was with Quinoa, but we had to abort as there was a huge storm and we lost power for several hours. The quinoa was actually almost cooked, so we turned it into quinoa salad. We went away for Christmas and packed it to go with us and have been cooking rice up in it every day. It really is simple to use - I love that you don't have to hover as stir at all, it just does everything for you. It's quick and the results are light and fluffy rice which doesn't clump or stick together. My mum was most impressed, saying it was how she remembered her mothers rice - and there certainly weren't these sorts of gadgets around back then! First impressions are great so far. It's easy to use, easy to clean, makes great rice. We even accidentally left the keep warm function on for 3 hours - and the rice was stil moist and fluffy, not dry or stuck together at all! Amazing!!

Risotto

by
4.75 out of 5

My husband loves brown rice so when i found the brown rice risotto recipe in the recipe book! I knew I had to try it - so i did! Being a little adventurous, I changed the recipe a little and was surprisingly not disappointed! I made Chicken and mushroom risotto!! As this was my first cook with the rice cooker! I was disappointed that there was no countdown timer. But thankfully i had read the other reviews and checked the time I put it on the brown rice function! The quick cook function was easy to use but slightly on the slow side. Given this was my first time using it - I wasn't sure how quick it would cook, I had everything prepared, in future, I might prepare as I go (i.e. slice the onions as the oil is heating etc). Once the pot got heated, the wait wasn't too bad! After the said time, the rice was cooked perfectly (meat was tender, the rice was soft and flavoursome)!!! Given this was not only my first time using the rice cooker but also my first time making brown rice risotto, I thought it could've been beginners luck but…. I loved the recipe so much I tried it a second time - this time for the big Christmas day family lunch and it still turned out perfect! This just might be my new favourite toy in the kitchen!!

Quick cook

Tried out basmati rice tonight on quick cook setting - I set the timer for an hour and went out - when I came back I could smell the cooked rice (smelt amazing) and it kept it warm while I prepared the fried rice - the rice was delicious, fluffy - I would have been happy just eating the plain rice, it was wonderful setting the timer and going out and coming back to perfectly cooked rice - easy to prepare - just rinse the rice and measure out the water and set / and wait. Love the warming function - I'm looking forward to trying out wild rice next

Love the Master Rice Cooker but no off switch?

by
4.69 out of 5

I've been using the Philips Grain Master Rice Cooker for a few months now and use it at least 2-3 times a week with different grains. However, I'm not sure if i've missed something but I can't find the off switch for it? There is the keep warm function which is amazing, but when i'm done, i always switch it off at the power point rather than an 'on/off' switch that i thought would be located on the cooker itself. It's not an issue and doesn't affect the usage of the cooker but just something i thought i would raise.

I have used the grain master a few times now and it gets easier every time and less mess too. Not only is this appliance great for set and forget cooking but it is very easy to clean and maintain too. I love cooking all sorts of grains in it especially plain old white rice as the mess this usually makes using a saucepan is not pretty and once baked onto your stovetop is hard to remove. You don't have to worry about any of that with the grain master... What a great invention!

So easy I've made it twice in a week! After reading a few recipes from the free recipe book, I came up with my own recipe and made a delicious risotto with long grain rice! After a few tries of using the rice cooker, its so easy to use and somehow, the rice miraculously comes out perfect! and if its not cooked to your liking, adding a bit of water and a bit more time always does the trick! I've never made risotto before owning this Phillips Grain Master Rice Cooker (and now I've made it twice in a week!)!

Love my Phillips Grain Master Rice Cooker!

by
4.69 out of 5

I made an attempt at making rice porridge/congee for my 11 month old using the Grain Master. The instructions were very easy to follow and I also added some carrot, spring onion and sesame oil. All I needed to do then was to select the porridge function and press start and 1.5 hours later it was done! The porridge was perfect consistency, however my one potential issue was that I had to drain some water from it. I'm not sure if this is normal for cooking rice porridge or not but that made it a little more time consuming. Apart from that, the bowl is so easy to clean and the plug, cup and spoon can all sit inside the cooker and be put away compactly.

Perfect basmati rice

by
4.69 out of 5

For my first use of the Grain Master I cooked some Basmati rice. I found the Grain Master really easy to use and the rice turned out perfect. After setting it up it looked rather complicated (compared to my last simple old rice cooker) with the various buttons and menu settings, but I just used the quick cook function. The rice was fluffy and delicious, and perfectly cooked. My favourite part was that not a single grain stuck to the cooking bowl so it was super easy to clean! Next I'll be a bit more ambitious and try one of the recipes from the book. I'm also keen to branch out and try some other grains. Maybe lentils next!

Philips Grainmaster Rice Cooker...Set and Forget!

by
4.69 out of 5

Philips Grainmaster Rice Cooker is a versatile, compact, lightweight cooker that cooks grains evenly. I love the four layer Crystal Black Pot with markings for grains and water. I also love the 8 multi-function program settings and the variety of recipes in the book that allows you to add or delete food items to suit your palate. I made a coconut grain dish using quinoa, orange lentils, rice with a touch of cumin, fresh coriander, lemongrass and a tin of coconut milk. The flavour, scent and taste on completion was delicious! Just set and Forget!

Pandas sticky rice

by
4.63 out of 5

So, I thought I'd try cooking sticky rice in the Philips Grain Master rice cooker to see how it would go. There wasn't a setting for sticky rice (otherwise know glutinous rice), so I just used the standard rice cooking function which was 45 minutes (also what I used to do with my old rice cooker), well, it turned out really well. Nothing stuck to the inner pot when it was done, and the sticky rice came straight out, however there were a few crispier bits at the bottom but I'm not sure if it was due to me using a different coconut milk or the rice cooker. But overall, I'm happy with how it turned out. The smell pandan coconut smell coming out of the rice cooker as it was cooking smelt amazing. This is a traditional Vietnamese sweet - so it has shredded coconut in it and is cooked in coconut milk. You can eat it like that or generally for sweetness we sprinkle a mix of sesame seeds, sugar and salt over the top over it.

I was inspired by the recipe on page 12 of The Philips Grain master Recipe book and made Blueberry and Pineapple Porridge. I added oats, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, egg, oil, milk, sugar, blueberries, pineapple and slivered almonds. To my surprise, the porridge turned out perfectly on the porridge setting. I topped it with blueberries, walnuts and a drizzle of honey. Then dusted it with icing sugar. It was so easy to make ! My husband ate some porridge for lunch and loved it. So did I ! Yum! The only issue I had was the recipe displayed the cook time as 45 minutes, but when I pressed the porridge setting, it displayed 1 hour 30m.

I used the Philips grain master to make my quinoa and banana porridge this morning and not only was it quick and easy but it was less gluggy than it normally is cooking it on the stove. I love the way I can just add the ingredients into the grain master and leave it to cook my meal while I get other things done instead of having to stand at the stove and stir the food watching it continuously. I am loving using this appliance and would definitely recommend it.

Great Rice

4.56 out of 5

My little boys love cooked rice to eat, but I was getting so sick of every time I cook it, it would flow over the container or the stove too. Then you have to get the right consistency and cook it so it's not under or over. So I got fed up and bought this rice cooker. What a life saver. The rice obviously never spills over any more and then the rice is always cooked perfectly. I love not having to clean up a mess in the kitchen any more.

After waiting (not so) patiently for my rice cooker to arrive! I was thrilled with the package! What surprised me most was the lightness of the large parcel! The parcel was easy enough to open and the rice cooker was well packaged! It also survived sitting in my car ( on a scorching hot afternoon) while i made last minute Christmas present deliveries for the whole afternoon (baby in tow)! I'm also not one who patiently read through the user manual but i found this one very easy to skim through and the headings were extremely well thought out as i managed to jump to the section that interested me with ease! After cleaning it as instructed - I definitely couldn't wait to get started! Just in time for the silly season

We've had several more successful uses of the Grain Master and every meal we've cooked has turned out perfectly. My partner has used it a few times now and loves it. I'm happy with how easy it is to clean too. The first couple of times I was a little unsure (possibly having not taken the time to properly read the manual!) but we've worked out which bits can be removed now and it's simple and quick to clean. Another feature that makes it a big improvement on our last rice cooker is the large capacity. It makes it easy to cook bigger meals for extra diners or leftovers.

by
4.5 out of 5

I finally received my Grain Master rice cooker after getting jealous reading all the reviews of those who had received theirs last week! I must admit it took about 10 minutes from arriving to being switched on and used for dinner! My current rice cooker is about 15 years old and I have enjoyed using it but it is nothing compared to this particular appliance. I started off with a simple jasmine rice - loved the markers inside the bowl to measure the water and the cup that came with it as well which ensure that my rice was cooked to perfection. I also am really impressed that there are two functions to cook rice - a quick cook (for those with limited time) and a standard cook function. Next stop - porridge for my baby!

First Impressions

by
4.44 out of 5

I was super excited when I received the Grain Master, when I opened the box it looked huge but once I pulled it out and put it on the bench it's not that big, it's light weight and I love that the cord can be fully removed and stored inside the Grain Master. I read the user manual and recipe book (information is basically the same in both - The recipe book is easier to read and more appealing with those beautiful looking dishes. My first attempt was the coconut brown rice pudding, I used medium white grain rice instead of brown rice and the recipe doesn't make sense with pour into cooker adding water to 1 cup level, the ingredients bring it up to two cup marker so I added water to next cup level, unsure if that was what I was ment to do I went for it- it smelt amazing and tasted great, however I got distracted with my kids and had to leave it on the bench for 15-20 min where it became glugy - definitely a recipe for eating straight away - will make this again for sure. Thought it was weird the display doesn't show count down timer so you know how much longer (it only shows this when 5 min left - but when the cooking time is 90minutes that's a long time to wait for pudding would be handy to know how much longer.

Loved how simple it was! I've always had trouble successfully making dhal but I was somewhat pleased wight he final product. Admittedly, the lentils were not soft enough to my liking despite putting it on "lentil function" twice & soaking the lentils overnight! The taste however was quite good (but then, I'm not an expert!) Double cooking the lentils however, resulted in my cauliflower being somewhat mushy. I will have to try making lentils another time.

Being a working mum, curries are always nice and easy to make, and this just makes it easier. Super easy to clean as well. My only negative would be that it is really big and takes up a lot of room. Looking forward to making brown rice next (much to my youngest's dismay)

Found it's place

This is just a short little review for the Philips Grain Master rice cooker. After using it a few times and not sure at the beginning if we would like it or not, we were hesitant to get rid of our current rice cooker (we have had it for ages but it was getting quite old). But now, safe to say that the Philips Grain Master has found its spot in the kitchen, so just wanted to say we are very happy with it. This is next to our toaster which is where our old rice cooker sat. In its forever spot ????????

Recipe book's brown rice and coconut pudding is delicious

by
4.31 out of 5

Tonight I tried the coconut brown rice pudding from the recipe book that came with the Grain Master. I'll definitely make it again - it was really easy and delicious. The only issue for me was the 90 minute cooking time (I usually wouldn't spend very long at all on desserts!) but the preparation time was really short and I just put it on before I started cooking dinner so it was ready at the perfect time. I was a bit confused at the end when it switched to the keeping warm function. I wasn't really paying attention, but at one point it said 8 minutes on the display and I thought this meant it needed to sit for that time. But when I went back a bit later it said 17 minutes. I'm presuming this was indicating how long it had been sitting on warm for but I'll have to take a closer look next time! In any case it was perfectly cooked. We served the pudding with vanilla ice cream and I'll definitely make it again. With only a quarter cup of sugar it's not too naughty, and it's quite rich so a small serving is sufficient. So far the Grain Master seems to be a great addition to our kitchen.

I am so excited to be chosen to review the Philips Grain Mastee Rice Cooker. Coming from Brazil we eat rice at home twice a day, every day, so it is a life safer, very handy to have in my kitchen. I received my machine about a week ago and was very happy to try it on asap. The machine has a beautiful design, it is not bulky and very light. It looks very stylish on the kitchen bench. It is very easy to follow the instructions from the manual and the book recipes has nice recipes that I am looking forward to try. Today I cooked rice the way I never done before, with lemon zest and thyme. It tastes amazing, my family just love it! Next I want to cook lentils and quinoa. Can't wait!

First Use & First Impressions

by
4.31 out of 5

Recieved my Philips Grain Master Rice Cooker today & was so very excited to see the delayed cooking function. I cannot wait to put this to use overnight to wake up to perfectly cooked porridge...hopefully. For the time being though I put to use the quick cook function to cook our basmati to accompany our curry tonight. Perfection. Rice was just like that of an Indian restaurant (popped in a sprinkling of turmeric for added authenticity).

Awesome

Ok so I really dis like when you go to cook rice on the stove or in the microwave and the texture becomes off or you over cook or under cook or the rice sticks to the side of you pans and containers, so annoying. Using this rice cooker it simply does not do it, it cooks the rice perfectly every time without exception. I would recommend this to anyone and all family and friends. It is a good price too . Thank you Philips

Loving the Quick Feature

by
4.25 out of 5

I love how I can have perfect rice in under 30 minutes, nice and fluffy (perfect for fried rice). I cooked up a heap of left over on New Years Eve and them made a large pot of rice to go with it and the keep warm feature was great so we could go back and have some later on. I forgot to take photos because we were all enjoying the food too much! Making risotto on the weekend so I will post another review with pics then!

Excited to receive my Grain Master! It seemed massive when the box arrived and I thought it would fill my entire kitchen cupboard space but it's actually light and quite portable. The recipe book has some great ideas and I'm looking forward to trying out some special dishes to share over Christmas. Looks like it will be perfect to use for our regular family meals as well. I didn't realise it could be used for porridge, so really looking forward to trying that with the timer function - waking up to hot porridge for breakfast would be fabulous!

Review and test one - Jasmine Rice

This is a wonderful rice cooker that cooks many different types of grains. The Philips Grain Master Rice Cooker comes with an internal cooking bowl, a plastic spatula/scoop, power cord, a measuring cup, an easy-to-follow instruction manual guide and an inspirational and delicious recipe booklet to try. The cooking bowl shows you can cook from 2 to 8 included measuring cups of rice, which is great for small or larger families. You can now cook perfect fluffy Jasmine rice every time. Just put in rice, rince add water to the corresponding amount of cups. Press start, and it will do the cooking for you. Easy! I tested it with Jasmine Rice and I would recommend this product to any mums out there looking for an easy-to-use, value-for-money and high quality rice cooker.

Easy to use and versatile too

by
4.19 out of 5

The Philips grain cooker is very easy to use. I've used it to cook brown rice and white rice. It was much easier to cook brown rice than on the stove and the cooking was even all the way through and times really well. I just press the required button and done. Also the recipe book was great to inspire me to use it for cooking other grains. I made porridge this morning and it was very easy to follow and make though it did take 1 and a half hours so you have to time it better, but happy with the results of the porridge. My bub enjoyed it too. The only thing I can say is that it is quite big so you need to make sure you have space for it and also the measuring cup they give you is pretty small and only 160mls. Should be just a standard cup I think so you will actually use it. I ended up just using my own measuring cup.

by

One thing I hate about cooking rice is the mess! This has made the clean up so easy!!!!!! Love it. Used it on the standard cook for the first time and it was brilliant!! Cooked a bit differently to quick cook but both are still great! And I'm absolutely loving the keep warm feature! Cannot wait to cook porridge!! :)

First use - broken rice

by
4.13 out of 5

Well, I was waiting to see how cooking this rice would go - it's a traditional Vietnamese dish called Broken Rice - which literally the rice grains are broken and when cooked it has a different taste (you buy the rice like that). With our old rice cooker I would always get a slightly burnt bit on the under layer of the pot, cooking it in the Philips Grain Master I think actually came out beautifully. Rice was just as it was meant to be - soft and fluffly and not dry and crispy. It also wasn't too soft and gooey, which is something you definitely do not want with broken rice. We served this with grilled pork, cucumbers, tomatoes, steamed egg and some shredded pork, then you just pour some fish sauce over the top when ready to eat. Will definitely be making more types of rice and grains in the Grain Master.

Reasons to love my Philips Grain Master!

by
4.06 out of 5

With over all experience so far, I would say,Yes it's really a very helpful appliance than a normal rice cooker. Because of it's different cooking/heating technology, it makes every thing more tasty and flavorsome! I am loving the difference. It's really very innovative ,new and different to other similar cookers available right now. Also because it cooks lentils and grains, its a definite plus for me.I liked the inner pot most, its three layered very good quality! Nothing sticks at bottom and cleans so easily. It surely saves time of cleaning and cooking process. If we experiment it's different functions,so many new recipes could be invented using different settings from menu. I tried to add left overs and veggies to rice with some spices and bit of butter in it,it turned out a delicious meal!!! The only small negative point is, you can not expect a quick rice like other rice cooker, it takes double time, but once you know, you keep that extra edge when ever cooking rice,so doesn't matter really! I would certainly recommend my Philips Grain master to my friends and other families who are very busy. thanks MOM and Philips for this great opportunity!

Easier than expected

by
4.06 out of 5

Like others, I was excited to receive the grain master and also was surprised at how lightweight it was - I expected it to be cumbersome and heavy. I loved the look of the recipes in the book and look forward to trying some of them out - but thought the first thing I needed to do was cooking basic white rice..... very easy to do, just throw it all in and hit start - I even used the delay start function which is awesome as then I don't have to remember to turn it on. Very handy when you prep tea during the kids afternoon naps. The result was great, the rice was yummy and evenly cooked, it was drier than my usual microwave method of cooking rice but it wasn't unpleasant, just different. Everything got eaten so I guess that is a win!

Purfect Paella!

Second time round using the Philips Grainmaster Rice Cooker. Home from work tonight at 7pm. Without a second thought I decided to whip up Paella. The preparation took about 20 minutes. The cooking went a lot quicker than I anticipated. The only issue I found was that I had to continue opening the lid to check on the rice as the timer didn't show the time left, It kept flashing in circles. Once again, he flavour was amazing! My family loved it. So did I! Yum!!!!

Got delivery of my Philips Grain Master Rice cooker in the last few days, was a nice surprise as I wasn't sure if it was arriving before Christmas. Now I was quite impressed with the look of it, considering I have grown up seeing a rice cooker at home since forever. My parents always had a spare ready to go if the current one broke down. But we've never had a white rice cooker so I thought that was pretty neat. It's quite compact and lightweight too, so will fit into our current spot perfectly. I can't wait to start using it, we will try cooking broken rice in it next week!! Can't wait to see how that turns out, as our current rice cooker burns the layer of rice (so this has been perfect timing)!!

Big mess ????????????????????

by
3.88 out of 5

Not sure what happened, after cooking rice in quick cook mode tonight I decided I'd make my inlaws a rice pudding similar to the coconut brown rice pudding recipe, I replaced the brown rice with white rice and substituted the coconut milk with cows milk and hit the brown rice function (90 minutes), because the display doesn't show a count down timer I made a mental note of the time - an hour later the 5 minute count down timer came on (weird the timing out) so I went to look and noticed milk all over the top of the unit (it had come out the vent) - it had made a huge mess - the lid was caked with the mix, the actual pudding was delicious but something seemed to go wrong, took a lot of effort to clean up and when I looked at the trouble shooting guide I found it said don't use too much liquid to rice ratio, I followed the recipe amounts just substituted the products, I then tried googling trouble shooting guide but got nothing. Feeling disappointed and frustrated - won't stop me trying again - just worried milk in the lid area that I can't get to.

The Best Risotto

by
3.75 out of 5

Having previously attempted cooking a dish using the 'Quick Cook' and 'Standard Cook' options with success, I became more confident to try cooking another dish using this mode. Tonight, I decided to cook Basa Fish and Cherry Tomatoes... As usual gave the cooker some time to heat up. Then added oil and then the fish and all the ingredients and a bit of water. Gave it a stir, and closed the lid on 'Standard Cook' (45 minutes). I opened the lid a few times for reassurance that everything was cooking well as it did. Almost 45 minutes are up... Taste tested it! Very flavoursome indeed! Success! I am feeling quite confident about trying something different and new... Now, I am thinking should I add a 'cup of rice' and extra water in the cooking to change a dish into a risotto?? I thought why not?? I have never made a risotto before, and feeling inspired by other member's excellent risottos photos using the cooker It can't go wrong??... I just need to make sure that I have the flavour, the amount of liquid all sorted and also (being a perfectionist myself) keep check on it every so often. It turned out much better than I thought. The texture, consistency was perfect and most importantly the taste was OH MY GOODNESS, AMAZING!! Thankfully, even my extremely food fussy toddler ate a sufficient amount, too. My husband and I was quite surprised what this rice cooker can do, and we both agree that this is the best meal we've eaten for a very long time. I will have to cook more of this next time indeed!!

Wake Up to Perfectly Cooked Porridge!!

by
3.75 out of 5

We trialled the delayed cooking function on our Philips Grain Master last night as we had just returned home from holidays & wanted to wake to a ready made got breakfast before the bag packing began. What an amazing function!! Before bed followed the instructions to delay the cooking of porridge for four, added some dried fruits (which almost rehydrated overnight) & set to begin cooking 10 mins prior to our usual wakeup time...of 6am...ahhh kids as alarm clocks, gotta love em. The whole family woke to amazingly fresh, perfectly cooked porridge. Cleanup was a dream (i have a habit of boiling over my porridge either all over the microwave or stovetop) & we had no gluggy, sticky grains. Amazing!!

Great machine.

by
3.69 out of 5

So I received the Philips Grain Master Rice Cooker with much excitement and my daughter (13 years old) decided that we should jump in boots and all, and cook something from the recipe book. In hind sight we should have just cooked some plain rice to start with so we could learn how to use the machine, as we got a bit confused along the way. We cooked a paella from the recipe book and once we figured out what we were doing it was fantastic. The meal was super tasty and well cooked, and we will definitely make it again. It is a one pot wonder of a meal and the clean up was so easy. The machine is big enough that we feed our family of 5 and we also had a serve leftover. I am happily planning my next meal so I can use the Grain Master again.

Easy To Make Korean Curry with Potatoes and Carrots

by
3.69 out of 5

A first timer using the 'Standard Cook' mode to cook Korean curry with potatoes and carrot dish. In the past, I would use a frypan/saucepan for this dish. For today, I will try something different! Whilst on 'Standard Cook' mode I would stir fry the vegetables for a few minutes, pour in the stock and close the lid checking several times if more stock was required. Forty-five minutes later, it's ready! Very, very pleased with the results of the Korean curry with potatoes and carrot dish. The vegetables are cooked well done, flavoursome and didn't stick to the cooker bowl and I only had to check and stir a few times. I will certainly use this cooker to make this dish again next time! Bye bye to the traditional fry pan/ saucepan.

Cooking Sushi rice a success!

by
3.69 out of 5

Tonight I used the Philips Grain Master rice cooker to make rice to use in my sushi roll. I placed two cups of measured rice, gave it rim even and filled the water to the corresponding amount. Set it to standard cook, a 45 minute wait. It would have been good if there was a countdown timer so I can see how much time left during the cooking process, instead a flashing circling display. But, that's still OK. It will beep to let me know when it's done. When it was ready, I opened the lid I was very pleased with the results of the rice. Fluffy moist texture throughout. Not too dry and not wet. Just right to be used in my sushi tonight! Both my family and I, enjoyed the meal tonight, it was a success as I received compliments which I'm happy about. Please refer to my attached pic of my sushi creation.

Multi grain rice

Tonight I had a serious case of niwfd (no idea what's for dinner) I put in the multi grain rice 2 cups to 3 cup level water as per suggested amounts and set the function and hit start, once it beeped finished I opened and stirred - it was gluggy the grains had turned to mush - the rice tasted full of flavour but was clumpy and didn't mix well with my fried veg & and egg mix.

Getting closer is fun! Yes , With second time use, I came to know even better about its settings and menu. This time I tried new dish. A red lentile dal curry. I put it on lentils setting. It showed me time for a flash of second, I thought it will be on display while cooking. But no, thats the only disadvantage I found. Time is not displayed, so you have to see it only in the beginning. It cooked perfectly again. Tender inside and not too mushy, which is really great to see. I want to try our traditional Biryanee next time.

My experience with this recipe / machine on this particular day wasn't the best - Followed the instructions and after 90min cook time I opened the machine to find it hadn't started to cook - not sure what happened (with no cooking count down timer makes it annoying - so I set my phone timer - 90min is a long time) I ended up trying the quick cook function to try get it cooked - ended up taking 1hour 10 mins using the quick cook function - once it was cooked it was absolutely delicious - I was just so annoyed for what ever reason it didn't work and I was eating dinner after 8pm - I froze the left over and reheated for lunch the following week and it was amazing just as delicious as when I made it.

Then Soak up 2 cups of basamati rice for 1 hour in cold water.First in a separate pot, heated some oil and added ginger garlic paste, cashews, cardamom's,bay leaf, red chilli powder, termeric powder and cloves.let it be golden fry, then added marinated vegetables and rice(rinsed out from water). Mixed it well and let it be there for two minutes. Switched on my Grain Master on standard cook mode, transfered marinated vegetables and rice to it added water up to the marked level,my work was finished! HUSBAND PROOF

by
3.13 out of 5

Tonight hubby came to the party & tried his hand at a quick & easy meal using the Philips Grain Master. As it was such a hot day the Grain Master provided a quick & efficient way to cook without generating the abundance of heat conventional stovetop cooking creates. It was great to have dinner cooked in the one pot (with the exception of the egg which was quickly fried in a small pan) & the clean up was surprisingly easy. Hubby hand washed the pot insert with ease & was surprised how easily it cleaned. The potatoes were fried in the Rice Master using the Quick Cook function with the lid open before adding the rice & water to use the Brown Rice cooking function (seems someone may have read the included recipe book behind my back!!!). I say if my husband, who does little of the cooking in our home, can whip up a tasty meal at the end of a long day with this amount of ease the Philips Grain Master will continue to be used in this household.

Phillips Grain Master - Faster & easier?

by
3.13 out of 5

Many thanks for picking me to review the Grain Master Rice Cooker. I was quite excited when chosen, and with good reason as I wanted to produce healthy, nutritious meals for the family that were time saving, easy and with minimal washing up. I tried the Seasonal vegetable and Brown rice risotto and followed it as per instructions in the cooking manual. It stated that in the last 5 mins add capsicum, asparagus, frozen peas and zucchini. These weren't cooked in the last minutes and I had to cook for another 20 minutes so that the vegetables were softened - nothing worse than raw asparagus with soft carrot (i.e. the carrots were sautéed before). After additional time and angst, the meal was ready and it did taste quite nice. The family liked it but it took longer than 95 minutes to cook (as per cooking instructions). For a time poor mother who works full-time, this type of meal will need to be cooked on the weekend well before meal time so that the family isn't sitting around complaining how hungry they are. I cooked brown rice alone and it was nicely cooked. It took 45 minutes, which again is considerable time for a mid week meal. I need to get dinner on the table in 30-40 minutes time, so using this rice cooker requires some preparation and time. I am pleased however that in making these meals there was very little washing up and there's a keep warm function. I will post some pics...so stay tuned.

I made porridge today and not successful, I followed the instructions including fill water to 1cup congee line (this was like 2 litres of water) when I pressed start I actually for the first time in using this machine got a count down timer of the whole cooking time which was exciting - I didn't actually hear the 4 beeps to indicate finished cooking and found it in warming mode, when I opened the machine as I suspected it was full of liquid -the oats were cooked but it was just liquid - far from anything remotely like porridge - disappointed I'll try again as I do love porridge and if it worked omg I'd be in love
