Introducing the Philips Avent 260ml Grown Up Cups product review.

Tip, Sip & Grow with Philips Avent

As your child grows, learning to drink independently is a skill which they need to develop. The revolutionary Philips Avent Grown Up Cups supports your child in the transition to independent drinking.

The Grown Up Cup was developed in co-operation with Professor Hunt (Orthodontist in the UK); according to him, this is: the ideal transition cup for growing toddlers.

The secret is the spill proof valve which only lets fluid out when the child’s lip presses against the valve anywhere around the rim.

Helping them to drink from an open cup-just like an adult without the mess!

Whether at home or on-the go, the protective lid always keeps the cup clean. Recommended for children 12 months+.

Great first grown up cup

by

My daughter used this cup for her first try of cows milk. She was so delighted that she could hold a proper cup and drink from it. It's easy for her to grasp and sip from and I literally had to pry it out of her hands to wash it. Definitely a great first cup to learn to drink from

A very grown up cup for a little girl

by
5 out of 5

My daughter struggles to drink from anything other than me at 17months (Still BFing) and doesn't like drinking from baby bottles, sippy cups or water bottles. She always tries to copy her big bro and drink from a cup but always ends in a mess. But this cup she drinks from no issue and feels like a 'big girl' copying her brother. :)

Easy to Use

by
4.95 out of 5

This arrived a couple of days ago in the post and I opened it and washed it straight away. I filled it and gave it to my daughter and she drank most of the water in the first 1/2 hour. This is great as I struggle to get her to drink and spend a lot of time encouraging her to drink. I had a cup like this for my oldest son but it was very hard to drink from and he only used it a few times before I threw it away. So I was very keen to see how easy the Avent cup was to drink from. It was very easy but also spill proof. I also like the addition of the lid for when out and about. The handles are great too but maybe the option to remove them would be a good idea so it is more like a regular cup for those toddlers who like to be the same as their older siblings. Overall a great product though.

Leaving another review for all the other mums out there to show them how good this cup truly is. It has not leaked once even after pulling it apart to wash it. It has been left upside down on my carpet, in my daughters bag and everywhere lease you can imagine and not one drop of liquid has escaped! I have even shaken it while upside down full of water and no leaking… Every mum needs one!

This is our first purchase of a lip-activated cup. One of my friend's toddlers uses one, and he does very well with it. I purchased this for my girl, to help train her to use a proper cup. Good design to give to a toddler that thinks she can use a big persons glass (and can't yet), Great for the car and restaurant. They love being allowed to hold it and control it all on their own without mommy hovering just waiting for a big mess to happen. I haven't noticed any spills!

I absolutely love the grown up cup, it took a few trials and errors to get the lid on just right but after we got it my daughter loves it. She now has her juice in it and prefers her milk in the grown up cup at most time. She hardly liked feeding herself before the grown up cup now she loves having that independence. I would definitely tell other mums to buy it and have already converted on if my friends for her daughter and she thinks it's fantastic.

Fantastic product, very child friendly

by

Unlike other "non spill" cups I've tried, Avents grown up cup is actually non spill. Ive shaken it, left if upside down full of water, tipped on its side full of water... and the bench around it stays dry! Also very easy for bub to use, and I found I could also assist bub when his lip didn't reach the centre section properly. I was able to touch it gently to make the water flow, without protest from bub! The pictures are also a great touch, to make it a bit more appealing to a young child! Definitely a recommended product, and one I will be buying more of!

My daughter love love loves this! I actually have had to go buy more as she refuses any other bottle now. You can see she feels like such a big girl. My only issue is the fast flow. She tends to stop drinking before the cup has been put down so it spills down her front. But small price to pay to learn the skill of drinking from a cup!

I bought one of the Avent cups for my toddler. Very easy to use and no mess. Will be fantastic for out and about or even on the couch. Also this is so much better for their teeth than a straw or spout cup. I'm so happy with it , I will be buying some more

when I first this I thought 'Hmmm, pretty sure you can't get a good toddler sippy cup, they all have at least one fault.' And I'm happy to report I was very pleasantly surprised. The cup is easy for little ones to hold and use. The bright colours it is available in are just delightful. But best of all is the spill proof valve that only lets the drink flow when lips are touching it. What a brilliant invention

Avoid the spillage - get a Philips Avent Grown up Cup

by
4.7 out of 5

My daughter is 2o months old and loves to do everything her older brothers do (aged 5 & 8). This includes many things as well as drinking out of a 'big kid cup'. I found the Philips Avent Grown Up cup a life saver when we went out as well as around the home as she could be a big kid with a 'grown-up' cup but there was not mess to content with afterwards. She learnt very quickly how to use the cup and loved her 'special big kid' cup! Advice to all parents -> Avoid the spillage - get a Philips Avent Grown up Cup!! :)

We've been using the cup for a few weeks now and whilst he easily gets the gist of how to use it and loves drinking out of it as well as our cups.. he still makes massive mess with spilling all over him. It's a good thing the weather has warmed up! It's a great cup and certainly makes for a great transition from sippy cup to regular cup.

A cup that lives up to it's promises

by
4.7 out of 5

When I first received this cup I thought it was a cute and colourful cup. The pictures for how to pull it apart were a little bit confusing (I still don't know if there is a difference in the way up the clear bit goes.) But after all that, Lil Miss picked it up and drank her water like a pro. With most sippy cups that claim to be spill-proof usually don't stand up to their claims when being tipped, thrown, or being used when wearing 'fancy' clothes, but this one does. There has only been one occasion where we have had to change clothes and that is when we had a chai latte together, but that may have been because she was reclining back and not really concentrating on what she was doing. I love that this cup has handles for easier holding (especially with messy, greasy hands), doesn't spill and can't be filled with food, as what happens when we attempt a normal cup.

This would have to be the best non-spill cup i have tried yet!!

After having this cup for a few days now my daughter is still infatuated with it… She wants to take it everywhere. She gives everyone 'cheers' with it and thinks it is very funny. We took the cup to creche today for the first time and upon returning home the cup was left in her bag upside down. I immediately thought 'great now all her things will be wet' but after removing the cup from the bag there was not one drop of water. I highly recommend this cup to all mums and dads and i'm going to be purchasing more of them. Great product Philips Avent!!

I won't use any other toddler transitioning cup now as this one is awesome! My 7 month old can use it and loves it! Finally a non-spill cup that is actually non-spill… Hooray for Philips Avent!!!

by
4.7 out of 5

Firstly i will say i was honestly sceptical whether this cup would actually live up to its expectations but i am pleasantly surprised! My daughter was so excited when it arrived in the mail yesterday, she finally has her very own big girl cup like her big brothers. At first she wasn't sure how to get the drink out of it but once i showed her how mummy drinks out of her cup she copied me and got the hang of it. She will not let anyone else tough it, it's hers! lol. I have turned it upside down and shaken it and not a drop leaks out of it, it really is non-spill as it claims unlike most of the other cups we have that claimed to be yet leave puddles on my floor if not left upright which is impossible with toddlers. I am very happy with this cup and will be purchasing a couple more. The only problem i have now is my 4 year old wants one too now so i may have to get him one too :-) Great review to be a part of, thanks MOM and Philips Avent!

Neat design, no spill and great cup for the toddler

by
4.65 out of 5

We love the Avent grown up cup so much that we have been carrying it everywhere we go. I have either talked to my friends or someone would ask me about it. The no spill design actually works. Our toddler is currently at a stage of testing everything. For example, she would pour water everywhere and tip food onto the table etc. We just love the design overall. Looks great and actually function as a cup. It took her no time to learn how to drink from it. Thanks for giving us the cup to try.

a great in between cup

by
4.6 out of 5

Surprisingly simple to take apart to clean, the no spill top is pretty nifty. My little miss found it easy to drink from, although while turning it over and really getting to grips with her new cup there was some spillage. Not like other no spill valves which require a sucking action to get them to work. Having said that I really like this cup, as the ability to drink from any side of the cup is great, as well as being a cool looking little cup.

Hip Hip... Horray!!

by

My son Albert is only 81/2 months old and I have been trying several different cups for a few weeks now. He does not yet comprehend a straw function and with traditional sippy cups, he only plays with it and does not actually drink any water. I was fearful that he was adverse to water over milk. With the Avent Grown Up Cup, he is able to both hold the cup and learn to drink with a natural sip and swallow style. He drank with interest and vigour, dropping half out of his mouth, but that will improve with time. I will only be using the Avent cup now until he is able to hold a cup unassisted. Learning to sip and swallow is a far more natural way to learn rather than biting hard silicone tips or sucking from straws. With summer fast approaching, I am more confident that he will drink more water as Albert will happily and successfully drink from the Avent cup. I would highly recommend the Avent Grown UP Cup. Despite being marked as 12months+ I think that many babies would manage it well far earlier than that. Especially since introducing water is so important.

Almost Faultless!

A great cup for a toddler. Easy to hold and drink from. So far haven't had any major spills with it HOWEVER at one point my toddler worked out that she could press the lid to make the water come out. A really clever idea and has a good capacity suitable for younger to older toddlers. It's also been tossed off the highchair a couple of times and so far is still intact! Would love to have this one in a couple of different colours and get rid of some of the sippy cups that we have bought in the past that leak.

Little spillage, and a big winner in our household

by
4.45 out of 5

My little guy loves drinking from this cup as it mimics a "grown up cup". The fact that it does not spill, or spills very little is an added bonus. We use it now as our cup of choice when out and about. It is easy to disassemble and wash in the dishwasher. There are no small parts to lose or break. It really is a very mum and baby friendly cup.

Innovative transition training cup - perfect for toddlers!

by
4.45 out of 5

The Philips Avent Grown Up Cup is a fabulous product and I am so excited that I can literally throw away all of the annoying, leaky sippy cups cluttering up my cupboards! My daughter very quickly worked out what she was supposed to do with this Avent Cup (although at first she struggled to swallow the water so a lot spilled down her front). But pretty soon she got the hang of it and now we are totally drip-free! She absolutely loves water and now she can finally have her own cup that won't spill everywhere as she runs around playing and exploring. Plus, the handy lid means I can quickly throw the cup in my handbag while we are out and about (and not have to worry about leaks)! I absolutely love this product and definitely recommend it!

My bubba is only 7months old and doesn't seem to drink from any other cup i have given her so far. The ones with the hard tips that she is supposed to suck through, she ends up just playing with. I tried the AVENT grown up cup with her today and she actually managed to drink water out of it! You can definetly use it for bubs under 12months. she still dribbled a bit down her front but the flow control is much better for her than a normal cup. thank you AVENT!

This was a great product for my youngest when she started refusing regular sippy cups because she wanted to be the same as her big brothers and sister but she still wasn't quite ready to use a regular cup yet. At least not without a whole lot of water ending up on the floor. This was a great compromise option that helped her to feel like a big kid without the mess. We loved it!

Great Idea

by
4.4 out of 5

This cup is such a fantastic idea. Our daughter loves to drink from adult cups but it always ends in disaster. Now we can control the water flow with this! She gets a bit excited though and pulls the cup away so quickly water continues to pour out for a short time but does drench the front of her. I think that's more the child then the cup though! All in all I love it and have even purchased another!

My 1 year old HATED sippy cups. I wasn't super excited about using them either and this cup solved our problems! My kid can easily hold and use this cup. It did take a bit of work for him to figure it out without spilling some water, but in just a few days he was sipping away and can now drink out of a regular cup with just a bit of assistance.

Perfect transitioning cup

by
4.35 out of 5

My daughter is 14 months old and is currently transitioning from bottle/sippy cup to regular cup. So far we had only practiced in the bath due to the mess factor, but with the Avent Grown Up Cup she is able to practice drinking from a "big girl cup" without the risk of it being emptied on the carpet! It took her a little while to get used to, but now she loves it and thinks she is very clever being able to drink from a cup like mummy!

Good concept

by
4.25 out of 5

Having a 4 year old big sister, Mr 16 months wants to grow up quickly by mimicking all that she does, so I was eager to try the Avent grown up cup in the hope of a little less mess while he did so. On first inspection, I liked the bright colour, sturdy handles and also the clear cup for ease of checking water levels. I also liked that there was a sealing lid for when out and about. Our first use seemed a little tricky as he is used to cups with straws, but after showing him to tip it, he picked it up rather quickly. Our only problem was he didn't swallow quick enough before returning the cup down - but we worked on that and he seems to be getting less spillage from that. He has worked out though that if you hold the centre disc in, the water will run out and allow him to create puddles on his highchair tray - but that is all down to his cheeky nature I guess. Overall I like the Avent grown up cups and I will continue to purchase them in the future. Thank you Mouths of Mums for the chance of trialling it for you :)

by
4.2 out of 5

We've only just received our cup, but after a quick try I am so far happy with what I see. My son was able to use it straight away, which is no mean feet as he has hard time getting used to drinking out of any type of cup. He also managed to not spill any water which is a lifesaver for me!

Unique product that helps develop cup drinking skills.

by
4.2 out of 5

This cup is a stepping stone between sippy cups and normal cups as it teaches toddlers how to control the amount and speed of the flow of liquid. The handles are helpful for toddlers to hold and it doesn't leak when turned upside down which inevitably happens! Cute design and bright colours make it easily found when misplaced.

Great introduction to the use of a cup

by
3.95 out of 5

We used the Grown Up Cup for the first time today. My 10.5 month old son had no trouble figuring out how to use this cup. I did make sure he was wearing an absorbent bib though as he spilled a lot of water onto himself. The no-spill aspect is handy but very easily circumvented by little fingers and mouths. It's great that the cup has a lid as well. Overall I'm really happy with the cup and would recommend it to others wanting to transition from a sippy or straw cup to a more 'grown up' option. My little one has enjoyed using his new cup as well and wouldn't let me take it off him after lunch.

by
3.95 out of 5

The Avent cup is a brilliant idea!!! My son thinks he is now drinking from a cup like his mummy and daddy! The colours, picture & mls is a great idea for a cup (as my other sippy cups dont have these features). It is so easy to get the idea that is being put across. But! It does take a little bit to get used to for a child. I noticed everytime my son drank from it, he would tip it right up like a bottle and drench the front of himself (quite fun to watch actually). With persistence and teaching he got it! Easy to use now and not long for real "big boy's " cup!

by

I'm not sure why I would chose this over a normal cup with handles in another brand for cheaper. I also had difficulty with getting it all to screw together - I think there was something wrong with the thread. And my 2 year old still had difficulties drinking from it. She usually has a cup of water beside her bed.

As a Speech Pathologist who works with children with disabilities, I think this cup is a great transition from a bottle or sippy cup. It was easy to get the water out & the water flowed out at a manageable rate, not too fast. The cup is also light & easy to hold with both one & two hands. I also love that it is non spill so it is easy to take with you or fir a child with a disability to take to school!

by

I'm sorry but I really don't like this cup. I found that my 13mth old worked out how to push down the plug and empty all contents on himself. Each time I tried it, I ended up with a ringing wet toddler. If you can get you toddler to use it properly then it's fantastic but as mine discovered how to get the water out, it just became a toy. It does however not leak when tipped upside down or thrown.

Easy to use cup but still leaks

by
2.95 out of 5

Initially the cup was easy to operate, easy to open, fill and close. My daughter found it easy to hold with the handles on either side. The downside is that when she goes to tip it over to drink, I think she tips it too far back and too much water comes out which falls all over her. I have also found that it still leaks. She tends to carry it around with her and I find water trails on the ground.

When I saw this product pop up on my screen I was so excited! As a mum of 2 boys, meal times are never clean and tidy and particularly with drinks, it all goes everywhere. I was keen to see how my 15 month old went with it. Conceptually it's amazing, although I struggled to understand the instructions to loosen it, and it ended up slightly disasterously, and he was covered in water. In saying that, I think I need to fiddle a little more to get it just right for my little one. I look forward to having a play and getting it right, because as I said, I think its a super clever idea!
